In the United States, airport authorities require all people who wish to board domestic flights to present a driver’s license or any other document acceptable under the standards set by the Real ID law, which has been in force at the federal level for more than a year now.

Within this framework, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) keeps published on its website the official list of credentials that will be considered valid to verify identity before boarding and specifies the expiration period with which they can still be used for that same purpose.

The United States requires valid documents to fly: what they must be like

The main reason behind this decision is security. All documents endorsed by the Real ID Act share the same standards at the time of issuance, regardless of the state that issues them.

This process highlights the use of anti-counterfeiting technology, the prevention of internal fraud, and the use of documentary evidence and records to verify the identity of the person requesting the document.
