The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Mexico announced to all Mexicans through its official website that they have limited time to preserve their current cell phone line.
This is because, nationwide, a mass registration of phone numbers is being carried out. The process consists of “linking each line to a CURP to identify and suspend anonymous lines that are used for crimes such as fraud, extortion, or virtual kidnapping, by phone,” according to the authorities.
If the procedure is not completed before the deadline, the communication channel will be automatically canceled and it will no longer be possible to access any associated service.
How to register the line and until when Mexico gave time
The deadline is set for June 30, so there are still several days left to carry out this task.
How to register the line step by step
- Enter the telephone company’s portal and provide your number
- Take a photo of both sides of the valid ID card
- Verify your identity with the phone’s camera and following the instructions on the screen.

The process can be started by clicking here or in person at the company customer service center using a valid ID card.
“By linking your line to your name, the companies’ platforms verify that you are the person who appears on the INE, so it is not possible to impersonate your identity,” it states.
Important information for those who must complete this procedure
If the line is not registered before June 30, the service will be fully suspended starting July 1, and the phone number will be lost at that time.
If it is registered later, the service can be restored.
It is essential to note that, in these cases, the procedure cannot be carried out by a third party -unless the person is a minor, in which case responsibility falls to their parents- but must be completed by the line holder.
Mexicans in the United States: what they must do
“If you have a line from a carrier with services in Mexico, you will be able to register remotely with a valid Mexican official ID,” said the Mexican authorities.
