United States authorities confirmed that disability pension benefits may be subject to reviews to confirm that all beneficiaries still meet the program requirements. If the control process is not responded to or the requested information is not sent, the continuation of the benefit will be at risk.

This procedure is part of the reviews carried out by the Social Security Administration (SSA) to verify that the benefit recipients are still eligible to receive it.

Officially, the name of the verification is Continuing Disability Review, an official process in which the medical and day-to-day situation of those receiving disability pensions is reviewed again.

Authorities will go door to door to verify that a beneficiary remains eligible

When authorities decide to review a case, SSA sends an official letter to the beneficiary requesting that they complete a report on their current situation. The document asks questions about:

  • The beneficiary’s health status
  • Their daily life
  • The medical treatments or evaluations they are receiving

In these cases, the authorities’ request must be answered individually in order to show that eligibility is still maintained.

How to complete this official procedure to keep the benefit

Beneficiaries must submit the Continuing Disability Review Report (SSA-454-BK form) when they receive the agency’s notice.

Options for doing it

  • Complete the report online from the beneficiary’s personal account.
  • Send the form by fax or postal mail to the local Social Security office.

Once it has been submitted, SSA will review the information and request additional data if it considers it necessary.

What happens if it is shown that a beneficiary is no longer eligible for the benefit

When the decision has been made, SSA sends an official letter with the decision.

If it is determined that the person no longer meets the requirements to receive their benefit, the notice will include instructions for filing an appeal. If no action is taken, the benefit will be discontinued.
