Authorities in Texas announced a tightening of highway checks across the state to ensure that drivers comply with road safety rules, especially the use of the seat belt.
This operation was confirmed by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) , which will deploy additional officers to monitor compliance with traffic laws and reduce the number of accidents on the roads.
According to the authorities, the inspections will be carried out as part of an annual enforcement campaign during a very busy weekend.
Texas will inspect car by car to verify seat belt use
The DPS reported an increase in patrols from May 11 to 25 as part of the All-American Enforcement Campaign, in which the Texas Highway Patrol is participating.

The main objective is to strengthen compliance with the seat belt law, in addition to monitoring other dangerous behaviors behind the wheel.
Under current law, anyone over age 15 who is caught driving without a seat belt must face fines of between $25 and $50.
Another rule that Texas police will monitor on the road
Authorities are also paying special attention to the law known as Move Over, Slow Down , which requires drivers to take precautions when there are vehicles stopped for emergencies on the side of the road. In these cases, it is necessary
- Move over to the farthest lane from the stopped vehicle, if the road has several lanes going in the same direction
- Or reduce speed to at least 20 mph below the posted limit
Violations of this rule can result in a misdemeanor with fines of up to $1,250.
