California announced a new state initiative to help families with newborn babies that will soon begin to be implemented. The program, confirmed by Governor Gavin Newsom will allow parents to receive 400 free diapers for each baby born in participating hospitals.
The measure aims to ease the costs of raising children during the first months and will be implemented collaboratively with the nonprofit Baby2Baby.
Its official name is Golden Satate Start and it will begin to be implemented during the summer.
Confirmed: 400 diapers will be given to all babies born in these hospitals
According to the official announcement, each baby born in any of the participating hospitals will receive the initial diaper package at no cost to the family.

The delivery takes place at the time of hospital discharge so that parents can return home with an adequate initial supply and cover one of the basic needs of the new family member.
How the program works and how the 400 diapers will be received
The process is direct and requires no additional paperwork.
Diaper delivery process
- The baby must be born in a participating hospital in California (those closest to the implementation date will be confirmed)
- At the time of hospital discharge, the hospital will hand over the diaper package
- Each newborn will receive 400 free diapers.
During the first year of implementation, the program will prioritize hospitals that serve the largest number of Medi-Cal patients. However, there are plans to gradually expand the program to more hospitals and birthing centers.
